Lessons from the first thousand users
What early usage teaches you about the product you thought you were building.
The first thousand users are not a growth metric. They are a research group. They show you which parts of the product are obvious, which parts are confusing, and which parts people actually need.
Watch the workarounds
When people build their own process around your product, pay attention. A workaround is a signal that the product is close but not quite there.
Ask better questions
Skip “Do you like it?” and ask what someone was trying to do when they opened the app. The answer usually points directly at the next improvement.
Protect the core
Early feedback can pull a product in every direction. Keep returning to the core promise. If a request does not strengthen that promise, it can wait.
